Bonjour my little demon,
This week didn’t go as planned. I’ve been sick, and the collection had to slow down. But while resting, I’ve surrounded myself with new inspirations that I know will add something special to the portraits. And today, I want to talk about that.
For me, there’s a difference between references and inspirations.
References are the images you gather—whether they’re your own photos or ones in the public domain—that form the foundation for your work. Every artist needs them, but it’s important to use them wisely.
What I want to share with you today are inspirations.
They come from all kinds of places: real life, photos, film stills, paintings…
And they should never be copied directly.
But there’s always something—a mood, a color, a detail—that sparks your imagination and guides your choices.
Here are a few inspirations I came across this week that have really captured my attention for my dragonfly collection:
It’s October, I’m sick, and it’s raining outside—the perfect setup to dive back into one of my favorite anime.
In this scene, the main character arrives in a place covered in wisteria. Above him, the wisteria trees form a protective, calming barrier—a breathtaking scene that feels like the gateway to something sacred.
If you’ve been following me, you know I’m a huge fan of Guweiz. I love every single piece he creates. This week, I revisited one of his works, and what struck me again is the cinematic feel—the angle and movement make the portrait feel alive and poetic.
I don’t know the name of this piece, but it’s by Miriam Hoffman, an artist I follow closely. What inspires me in this painting is the luminescence of the figure. The white, surrounded by black, seems to glow and gives the character a whole new dimension.
Voilà, that’s all for me. Hope these images inspire you as well!
Je t’embrasse,
Léa
