"Why do you create?"
"What?"
A few days ago, my friend Naal was lounging in my atelier while I worked on my next collection. I was exploring an idea I had sketched weeks before: The Secret of the Dragonfly. Then, out of nowhere, he asked:
"With your skills, you could draw anything. Why focus on flower fairies, demon girls, and dragonfly queens? Why not cars, football players, or real-life people like everyone else...?"
I was stunned…. What? No Way!
I replied : ”I draw what truly matters. In this world, where overconsumption, anxiety, and pollution rule over us... what do we have left? For me, drawing powerful adventurers in a magical world is my way of saying, 'You can do it.' It’s also my way of showing how precious, yet fragile, nature is. Did you know rainforests are being cut down at 100 acres per minute? That beings are vanishing and people are losing their homes? Merde alors... This is the real deal!"
Naal smiled. "So... is that what your next collection is about?"
Yes. It is.
With my first collection, I want to infuse meaning into my work.
Not just tell a fantastical adventure...
But reflect on both nature and being a better human. On finding allies and fighting enemies. On magical scenes helping you overcome real-life struggles.
That’s the journey I want to take you on.
And these missives are your first glimpse into this world. I hope you're already enjoying the view.
Voilà, that's all for me.
Next week, I'll start the first sketches and compositions.
Je t’embrasse,
Léa
